Project SkyPower has submitted a response to the European Commission’s call for input on the EU Aviation and Aeronautics Strategy.
e-SAF is central to the future of European aviation. It can help decarbonise long-haul flight, strengthen energy resilience, secure supply, reduce exposure to volatile fossil fuel markets, and support Europe’s industrial leadership.
Europe has already created the foundations for a leading e-SAF market through ReFuelEU. However, high risks for first movers mean the market remains stalled, with fuel suppliers hesitant to sign offtake agreements and projects struggling to reach FID.
In order to grasp the industrial opportunity of e-SAF, Project SkyPower calls on the EU to:
1. Protect regulatory certainty and bolster investor confidence.
2. De-risk first movers to make the first wave of projects bankable.
3. Rebalance responsibility across the e-SAF value chain via an integrated industrial approach.
4. Ensure a level playing field for airlines.
5. Build the market infrastructure needed for scaling.
